The King Father

These few days it's been apparently overwhelming for everyone in Cambodia. We have just lost our King Father! Of course, I am sure when it comes down to talking about a leader of a country, there is no perfect leader. One way or the other, leaders are credited for some reasons and loathed for others. Likewise, in the case of the King Father, he was not perfect. But as far as I know, as the head of the state, he did not just sit around and give orders to the subordinates--he fought for our country! And now that he passed away, there appeared the never-seen-before footage of how Cambodia was like during his reign. I was dumbfounded to see how advanced in so many sectors Cambodia was during the 1960s. But then of course even though he was already gone, there are still people who seem to hold grudges against him for things he did not do well. Personally, I choose to remember the so many things he did right for this country and to let go of the things he screwed up. And my heart goes out most to the Queen Mother. I cannot possibly imagine being in her shoes. She was with the King Father for almost 70 years, barely apart from each other, through thick and thin, holding on tightly to each other, and all of a sudden, she has to bear with the truth that she is all by herself now. I remember how heart-wrenching it felt seeing her sobbing her heart out after covering the King Father's face with a white hankie. It must have struck her so hard that it was the last time she would ever see her husband's face. The whole scene is just too sad ...

Anyways, this is the third day of mourning, and my entire family have been wearing white with a black ribbon each. We still watch the documentaries about the King Father, and talk about him. Mum is the most emotional. She cries every time she watches the Queen Mother covers the King Father's face. And almost everyone on Facebook keeps posting pics of the King Father. Some write their own poems, and some even draw pics of him. It is just sad ...
